BA Cabin Crew Donate to RAF Benevolent Fund

Members of BACCES (British Airways Cabin Crew Entertainment Society) gathered at RAF Benson, Oxfordshire, on 9th May to present a cheque for £1,500 to the RAF Benevolent Fund’s Heather Kemp.

The donation was made from the proceeds of BACCES’ 2017 production, Robin Hood, which it performed at The Beck Theatre, Hayes, in December. The contribution was all the more pertinent as the RAF celebrates its centenary.

Broadcasting celebrity, Peter Dickson, who had kindly donated his time to BACCES for its last production and who has a long affiliation with the RAF, nominated the charity. He said: “ This is my chance to give back using my skills, expertise, and experience to assist the RAF and its charities, and the RAF Benevolent Fund.”
Peter’s links with the RAF go back to his University Air Squadron days at Queen’s University, Belfast. His intention then was to join the RAF, but a career in broadcasting presented itself instead. He generously gives his time to the RAF to M.C at concerts, events and awards ceremonies.

The BACCES members were given a comprehensive and fascinating tour of RAF Benson’s training facilities by RAF Air Crew Gareth Attridge. They were also given the opportunity to board a Puma 2 helicopter, which was used as part of the relief effort in the Caribbean following Hurricane Irma in 2017. Paul Hewson, Regional Director for the RAF Benevolent Fund, said: “We’re absolutely delighted at the support we have received from BACCES! The show looked to be such a spectacle and we are thrilled that our supporter and friend of the Fund Peter Dickson has chosen to champion us to a new audience, our new friends at the British Airways Cabin Crew Entertainment Society. Support such as this from Lisa and the team at BACCES is at the heart of what we do, so it means an awful lot to have such meaningful backing from the whole crew. With their help, we can reach even more deserving beneficiaries and offer help – be that through financial or emotional support – and ensure that we are there for every member of the RAF Family when they need us.”

BACCES would like to thank Peter Dixon, Heather Kemp, Hemma Gooljar, RAF Benson’s Gareth Attridge, and all the team for the wonderful welcome they received at RAF Benson. The RAF Benevolent Fund have spent over £147,000 at RAF Benson since 2016. From Airplay and Relate relationship counselling to CAB grants, individual grants and Families Day funding, the Fund is proud to support serving personnel and their dependants.
