Honours and Awards

Air Vice Marshal David Cooper, the Air Officer Commanding Number 2 Group, presented dozens of medals and commendations to RAF Benson personnel in a special ceremony in the Officers’ Mess.

The Meritorious Service Medal, awarded to those who have demonstrated distinguished service, or for gallantry that is deserving of recognition, was presented to Master Aircrew Jamie Dunkerley.
With the Puma Force committed to Operation TORAL in Afghanistan, it was no surprise that amongst the medals being presented were Operational Service Medals with Afghanistan Clasp.They were awarded to: Flight Lieutenant Niall Davidson, Mark Armstrong and Robert Fennel, Sergeant John Luckin, Corporals Luke Chinnock, Tom Coles and Aidan Mitchell, and SAC Thomas Hendleman.
The Accumulated Campaign Service Medal, awarded to those who have completed 720 days of qualifying deployments, was presented to Corporal Andy Holding.
The Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, awarded in recognition of long service with irreproachable character and conduct over 15 years reckonable service, was presented to Corporal Adrian Martin.
The Clasp to the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, which is awarded for a further 15 years exemplary service, was presented to Sqn Ldr Kelvin Hamblin and Master Aircrew Andrew Lyes.

The Royal Warrant of the RAF was awarded to Warrant Officer Vanessa Roe and Master Aircrew Andrew Lyes.
The Personal Commendation of Air Officer Commanding Number 2 Group was presented to Flight Sergeant Sally Pope and Corporals Kelly Flynn and Simon McNamara, with team commendations being awarded to the Accounts Flight, the Station Engagements Team and Photographic Section and the Catering Flight.
Speaking at the ceremony, Air Vice Marshal Cooper said: “I love coming to give awards to people; it’s one of the most important and rewarding jobs. We have some outstanding people across the Whole Force and days like today are incredibly important to recognise those that have gone above and beyond. None of these awards have been given lightly and they each highlight a phenomenal amount of work. Congratulations to you all and a special thank you to your families for their invaluable support.”
